Cultural Awareness Strengthens Search and Rescue Response

November 2–8 marks Treaties Recognition Week in Ontario— an opportunity for Ontarians, and Canadians more broadly, to deepen understanding and engagement with Indigenous peoples as part of the ongoing process of Reconciliation.

This week honours the importance of Treaties and helps us learn about the rights and responsibilities they represent.

For SARVAC responders🦺, understanding the histories, cultures, and protocols of First Nations, Inuit, and Métis peoples is essential to delivering ethical, effective, and culturally safe Search and Rescue support.

The SARVAC HWF Indigenous Awareness Campaign reinforces our shared commitment to Reconciliation, trauma-informed practice, and responder readiness.
