Actively Monitoring in Newfoundland & Supporting Operations in Winnipeg from the HWF Team
As the first week of August comes to a close, wildfires in Newfoundland and Labrador have prompted a State of Emergency and Evacuation Order, with the Holyrood Fire still classified as out of control.
SARVAC is actively coordinating with Public Safety Canada, NLSARA, and local GSAR teams to assess the potential deployment of the Humanitarian Workforce (HWF) in support of local efforts.
On the ground in Newfoundland and Labrador:
- NLSARA volunteers are assisting with checkpoint monitoring, public safety, and care of pets and livestock.
- Residents are urged to follow all evacuation orders and safety instructions.
- A province-wide fire ban remains in effect until at least September 7.

In Winnipeg:
- Rotation 4 HWF Responders are now fully deployed, supporting shelter operations as Rotation 3 demobilizes.
- WINSAR members remain active on-site, assisting evacuees as the situation evolves.
- Rotation 4 Responders are managing multiple taskings and shelter support roles daily.
- All Rotation 3 Responders have now safely returned home.

π Huge shoutout to all GSAR volunteers across Canada currently supporting wildfire operations for their tireless dedication and service to communities in crisis.
Weβll continue to share updates as more information becomes available while monitoring disaster response needs from coast to coast to coast.
