Emergency Update: Wildfire Response in Labrador City
Earlier this week Public Safety Canada approved a “green light” request for assistance to deploy, in response to ongoing wildfires devastating the surrounding areas of Labrador City. Thousands of residents have been evacuated to Happy Valley-Goose Bay and HWF Responders have been mobilized with approximately 30 Ground Search and Rescue (GSAR) volunteers on site to assist the communities most affected by this crisis. We extend heartfelt gratitude to all responders, whether actively engaged in rescue operations or on standby, ready to assist at a moment’s notice.
For those in wildfire-threatened areas, your safety is paramount. Please heed advisories from provincial and territorial authorities, respect roadblocks and closures, and follow guidance from police and emergency management officials. Avoid hazardous areas, comply promptly with evacuation orders, and observe local fire bans.
We remain committed to keeping everyone informed as GSAR volunteers across Canada continue their tireless efforts.
Updates will be provided regularly as the situation evolves.Let us unite in prioritizing safety and offering unwavering support to those tirelessly protecting our communities. Thank you for your cooperation and vigilance during this challenging time.
Stay safe, stay informed, and stay strong.
