How can GSAR volunteers in Canada contribute to disaster relief?
We’re thrilled to share the recent completion of our Full-Scale Exercise “Effective Impact 2024,” held on October 5th in Constance Bay, Ottawa!
This one-day event brought together over 100 GSAR volunteers to simulate disaster relief in response to a powerful hurricane and an unexpected tornado that struck the region.
Participants tested key phases of our National Search and Rescue Operations Concept, including mobilization, deployment, and on-site coordination. This exercise showcased our readiness to assist Canadians in large-scale emergencies and reinforced our commitment to coordinated humanitarian aid.The one-day FSX evaluated the preparedness and emergency response capacity of SARVAC’s Humanitarian Workforce (HWF) in response to a Request for Federal Assistance (RFA) following a large-scale emergency.
Participants engaged in crucial phases of the National Search and Rescue Operations Concept (NSOC), including:
- MOBILIZATION
- DEPLOYMENT
- TASKING
- ON-SITE DEBRIEF
- DEMOBILIZATION
These activities provided a practical assessment of our readiness to support Canadians in need during crises. A huge thank you to the Constance and Buckham’s Bay community, West Carleton Disaster Relief, and the Constance and Buckham’s Bay Community Association for your invaluable support, as well as to all GSAR responders from across Canada for your participation!
Together, we are ensuring our communities are prepared for anything.
