Training Curriculum Standards
SARVAC is pleased to present Z1625-16, Training curriculum standards for ground search and rescue operations: Searcher, team leader, and SAR manager.
This is a competency-based curriculum standard developed as a complement to Z1620 – Core competency standards for ground search and rescue operations: Searcher, team leader, and SAR manager. This Standard provides a benchmark for Ground Search and Rescue (GSAR) team trainers or other training providers to evaluate existing programs, carry out a gap analysis with regard to the content of existing training programs, and facilitate developing new training programs. This Standard is not intended to replace existing training programs applicable to GSAR.
The Standard consists of two primary sections. The first section provides guidance for a curriculum design that is intended to help ensure that all GSAR training curriculum across Canada is developed and delivered consistently using a set of shared or universal guiding principles. The second section provides a set of curriculum content standards for the core roles of searcher, team leader, and SAR manager.
SARVAC wishes to acknowledge the members of the CSA Subcommittee and the CSA Technical Committee who: applied their knowledge and understanding of GSAR; drafted and reviewed the content of the standard to ensure it meets a high standard of quality; also, for understanding the relevance and importance of national standards for GSAR in Canada.
