United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNDRR)|VIII Regional Platform for Disaster Risk Reduction in the Americas and the Caribbean

Welcome home to SARVAC President Janelle Coultes who participated in the United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNDRR)VIII Regional Platform for Disaster Risk Reduction in the Americas and the Caribbean held in Punta del Este, Uruguay last week from February 28th to March 2nd.
The VIII Regional Platform represents an opportunity for governments, intergovernmental bodies, private sector, civil society, scientific-technological communities, youth, cooperation agencies and donors, as well as other relevant stakeholders in the Americas and the Caribbean, to exchange experiences and facilitate decisions on the Regional Action Plan (RAP) for the implementation of the Sendai Framework in the Americas and the Caribbean.
Janelle represented SARVAC and joined a total of 45 countries with other Canadian delegates from Public Safety Canada, Environment and Climate Change Canada, the Chief Science Advisors office, the Canadian Red Cross, St. John Ambulance, and the Assembly of First Nations plus many more from abroad who attended.
This opportunity allowed for conversations to take place surrounding the Humanitarian Workforce Program (HWF), and provided a platform to share stories surrounding the GSAR response effort witnessed here in Canada as a result of local SAR teams assisting with environmental emergencies.
A sincere thank you to the facilitators and speakers from the United Nations Disaster Risk Reduction (UNDRR) for the Americas and the Caribbean in providing attendees with a focused framework on the science behind disaster risk reduction.
