Exciting News for Volunteer Firefighters and Search & Rescue Volunteers!

The Department of Finance Canada has just announced a significant boost in support for volunteer firefighters and search and rescue volunteers. In the upcoming Budget 2024, tax credits for these selfless individuals is expected to be doubled, increasing from $3,000 to $6,000 annually starting this year.

This move recognizes the vital role these individuals play in protecting our communities, especially in rural areas facing more frequent and intense wildfires due to climate change. With an additional $105 million in funding over the next six years, this initiative aims to provide greater assistance to those who put their lives on the line to keep us safe.

The government is also planning to invest $166.2 million over five years to enhance emergency management and preparedness in First Nations communities, acknowledging their unique vulnerabilities to disasters.

Be sure to stay tuned for updates as we continue our work in enhancing fire season preparedness and supporting emergency response efforts nationwide, while facing the challenges of the upcoming fire season head-on.
